Finally some sense from Mel's arresting officer
Finally someone is talking some sense over the whole Mel Gibson drink-driving scandal.
The officer who arrested Mel Gisbon , the Sheriff's Deputy James Mee, who is Jewish, said that he considered it a routine arrest and did not take any comments made by Gibson seriously.
An arrest report signed by Mee and posted on the celebrity news Web site TMZ quoted Gibson as saying, \"The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world,\" and asked the arresting officer, \"Are you a Jew?\"
According to various reports Deputy Mee would not comment specifically on Gibson's remarks.
\"That stuff is booze talking,\" the deputy is quoted as saying in an interview outside his home. \"There's two things that booze does. It amplifies your basic personality. If you are a laid-back kind of person, just an easy going kind of person, booze is going to amplify that and you'll be just sitting around going how it's a wonderful day.
\"But, if you are high-strung person, it's going to amplify that and all the bad things are going to come out.\"
The Los Angeles Times, citing unidentified sources, said a portion of Mee' report was made confidential while police officials discussed how much information about the arrest should be made public.
The Sherrif's department eventually made no mention of the alleged remarks and went on to say the arrest went without incident.
However, news of a cover-up started circulating after TMZ reported the allegations of Gibson's anti-semitic comments and posted a copy of the report on its site.
Mel has admitted to a drinking problem and has apologised, but that's not been enough for some - the ABC has cancelled a planned miniseries it was developing with Gibson on the Holocaust after two years of working on the project
Meanwhile, Mee's only wish for Mel is that he stops drinking and driving and said he in no way wanted to defame or hurt him.
