Kalgoorlie Woman Charged

Western Australia has upgraded its racial discrimination laws and today in Kalgoorlie an Aboriginal girl is the first person to be charged under the new laws. Once dubbed the most racist town in Australia, this is hardly going to help the town\'s image.

I can’t understand how this is racial vilification. Calling someone a ’****’ or ‘*****’ is slanderous, and could be construed as vilification. If you asked the defendant whether she believed being white made you a ****, and she said yes, that would amount to racial vilification. In the heat of the moment, I would say the defendant used ‘white’ to describe appearance, not to denigrate all white people as being ***** and *******.
