Ledger confirmed for showdown with The Dark Knight
Jeff Robinov, President of Production at Warner Brothers Pictures, has confirmed Heath Ledger will play the part of The Joker in the latest Batman sequel The Dark Knight, due to begin shooting in early 2007.
Christopher Nolan (Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins), who will again be directing Christian Bale in the lead role, recently finished production on The Prestige, starring Bale and Australian star Hugh Jackman, and will now turn his attention to making sure the script is finished for the latest DC Comics block buster by the end of the year.
When asked how he felt about the casting decision Robinov remarked: “Our challenge in casting The Joker was to find an actor who is not just extraordinarily talented but fearless. Watching Heath Ledger's interpretation of this iconic character taking on Christian Bale’s Batman is going to be incredible.”
