Freckle Creative Scoop The WAWA Prize Pool
Freckle Creative were the big winners at the annual WA Web Awards held Friday August 18, scooping five of the 13 awards, including ‘most outstanding website of 2006’ for the site of Tanzanian musician Sauda Jazzmin.
The site they developed for the internationally acclaimed Golden Pride Choir also won two awards including ‘best accessibility and standards compliant website’ and “not for profit or charity.’ They also scooped the media award for the site they developed for WA All Sports Expo. Their fifth award was for ‘best of field for small business’.
Freckle Creative director Quentin Gribble said they were proud of the recognition from their industry peers. “When we started Freckle Creative about four years ago, our goal was to provide our clients effective business solutions and not just make things look good,” Mr Gribble said. “I think you could say that given our success at the WAWAs we have proven we can achieve that for our clients.”
All sites were judged along strict criteria including design aesthetics; content and homepage; web standards and accessibility; functionality and credibility.
Freckle Creative’s association with the Golden Pride Choir and then its MC Sauda Jazzmin came about after they were approached by Perth man Grant Pierce who worked in Tanzania and had been instrumental in setting up the choir as a community program.
Mr Pierce wanted Freckle to create a site for the choir to heighten their international profile. He gave Mr Gribble a documentary on the choir and told him to have a look at it.
After watching the documentary, Mr Gribble said he was blown away by the story of the children’s choir and their journey to WOMAD to perform in a concert for an international audience and he wanted to convey their story and courage through the website. Since then the site has received a lot of accolades from those who have seen the choir or just heard about them and it has also helped bring in much needed money to allow the choir to tour internationally.
The site they developed for Sauda Jazzmin had also added to her international profile and she had received many compliments about the site from her fans.
Mr Gribble said Freckle will continue to develop the web design and development side of the business as well as their graphics division. They will also soon be launching a ‘solutions division’ to commercialise several business applications currently under development.
The company has recently relocated to bigger premises at 68 Hay Street, Subiaco WA to facilitate the expansion.
