Health levy hits pockets
It's the revenue windfall the Government is not telling us about. This year up to half a million Australians could be forced to pay an extra 1 per cent of their incomes to the tax man as a penalty for not having private health insurance.

I fall into the income bracket that has to pay the Medicare levy as I do not have Private Health Insurance. I would not consider myself a high income earner and do not have insurance simply because I cannot afford it. My other problem is that most people I know who have health insurance are always forking out more money than I do to pay for their ‘privelige’. So I am slugged for using the public system through Medicare - even though I really have no choice on the matter. If there was a way of making prvate health isurnace more attractive I would consider it.
