I’ve been a fan of Media Watch as well as Australian Story for a long time, but I have to say I think MW has it right on this one.
I remember feeling slighly uncomfortable with the take Australian Story had on this one and after seeing MW tonight I know why. It was slightlu biased - but good on the ABC for pointing the finger at one of their own programs.

Media Watch is one of the only public commentaries that truly does put the media under scrutiny without fear or favour, and they don’t mind pointing the finger at their own master if there is cause. It is often the most compelling 15 minutes of television in the week. I think they are spot-on in their assessment of the Walsham Story, and they are also justified in questioning the value of some of the recent stories “Australian Story” have covered, including the Mark Bouris episode. At it’s best, “Australian Story” is compulsory viewing. Perhaps they are finding it harder to find great stories these days.
