Swell result: Billabong profit waxes

US teenagers' thirst for branded products has pushed surfwear retailer Billabong to a full-year profit slightly ahead of expectations. Billabong yesterday filed a profit of $156 million for the 12 months to the end of June, well up on last year's $125 million which in turn had been considerably higher than the previous year's $87 million.
