Steph Irwin (1962 -2006)
Australian wildlife crusader, director of the Queensland’s Australia Zoo - noted for his role as host of “The Crocodile Hunter” and for his roles in various films. Also famous in my household, and many others I’m sure, for hamming it up with The Wiggles and his saying, “Have a look at this little beauty.”
Given the enormous response to his death, he obviously was well-loved.

Crikey, he certainly went out in spectacular fashion! I wouldn’t have guessed it would be a sting-ray, but Steve Irwin was certainly a bit of a dare-devil and also a loose cannon who sometimes over-estimated his ability to control his environment. Whilst he will be remembered for that moment of poor judgement when he fed a crocodile a chicken whilst holding his newborn son, and for failing to properly handle a snake at last years Logies, when the snake got away from him and bit Tim Webster from Channel Ten in the groin., he was also a wonderful ambassador for Australia. He has two children with his American wife Terri. How sad for them that they will grow up without their father, but they will have many hours of documentaries and film footage to remember him by. He died doing what he loved, and there is something to be said for that.
