$5 for a photo or for free ... you decide!
There is an interesting debate at Flickr over the rights of street photographers after a Melbourne Flickrite was assaulted by a man she had taken a photo of.
jodie_i_am took a photo of a man sitting at Flinders train station, who then approached her and asked her for $5. When she said she didn't have the money, he asked for the film and when she explained it was a digital camera she deleted one of the pictures in front of him.
She still had another photo on her camera and uploaded the picture of the man to Flickr with his face blacked out, asking the question about whether the did the right thing. It would appear that she had done nothing illegal, according to articles I found on the subject, the best one being this.

So whats the argument, sounds logical that one would simply ask the person if it was aok to take thier photo…..wouldnt you?… obviously you have lost sight of general courtesy!
Just get back to general principles……you should then never fall foul of such issues.
