As always, this is all about protecting the interests of a few people in the local gaming industry.
The same spectre already looms over those of us who play online poker as a hobby/small income earning exercise.
From memory, every hand I play at a 5/10c online poker table, I risk getting a $500 fine.
EVERY HAND…
Considering I might play a hundred hands or more at a time, I don’t like to think what that adds up to.
The alternative is to go to Unnamed Local Gaming House and lose more money, which is divided between James Packer, Alan Carpenter, and John Howard, through their respective authorities.
Tell me where is the harm in someone being able to have a little bet on a sporting event or other game online.
Surely not in problem gambling? I don’t hear a lot of cries for shutting down the TAB or On Track betting.
I’m ranting now, but sometimes I really do feel the people in charge of things in this state are so far removed from reality it’s scary.
