Mandurah home gets the green nod

A Mandurah home purpose-built to promote best practices in environmental technology has won two national awards.

The house was developed in partnership with the City of Mandurah, between Perth and Bunbury, and four businesses, and features aspects like solar gas hot water and efficient lighting.

At the Housing Industry Association's GreenSmart Awards, the house won the categories of Project Home of the Year and Smart Housing.

With the population in Mandurah expected to grow at a rate of 55 per cent in the next decade, the ecological implications can't be ignored.

The house can be seen here, where you can look at floorplans and get some ideas about the engineering behind the design.

The most appealing feature of the house though is it has been built to be an affordable option for home builders.
