Carpenter blames The West - for everything

First, 'shoot the messenger' Education Minister, Ravlich, with the assistance of Mr. Fixit, Brian Burke, arranged a private meeting between herself, Minister for Small Dirty Business, Norm Marlborough and Paul Armstrong, Editor of the West Australian ("I rang Mr Armstrong and suggested that we meet in a coffee shop and that Norm Marlborough also attend"), for what can only be an attempt to muzzle The West for reporting the wholesale debacle she has made of the administration of education in WA.

Unsuccessful, she then says that "The outcome of the meeting with Mr Armstrong was that I would not back down in the face of his attacks on me over OBE or any other education matter.". That might be a plausible statement if he had contacted her, but it was she who contacted him to try to influence what he was doing, not the other way round. Rewriting history (sorry, I mean - 'Time, Continuity and Change') to misrepresent your real intentions and your lack of success, Lil?

Then we have Jim McGinty denying point blank that there is any staff shortages or bed shortages in WA hospitals, (ignoring the continual resignation of senior surgeons from the public health sector because they can no longer operate in such dangerously under-resourced conditions) and saying that the senior clinicians, heads of departments and nursing staff who are all confirming the severity of these problems - are just "disgruntled staff, resistant to 'reform'". (Shoot the messengers - all of them) Here he is backed up by the appallingly overpaid and ineffectual Neil Fong who says - "Sometimes we just get busier than others - there is no crisis"!

Now we have Alan Carpenter directly blaming the West for Geoff Gallop's depression (What a low and desperate and

Going on Carpenter’s tirade against the West Australian newspaper, reported in Spagnolo’s Sunday Times article of today, “Hysterical Negativity - Premier”, it appears that “If the news is bad, shoot the messenger” is now mandated policy for the State Labor Party.

This was supposed to be the blurb for the above story - unfortunately it was somehow deleted.

Hi Peter,
will look into the blurb problem.

I will keep getting my copy of the West! I think the editor has been amazing in his pursuit of the less impressive MPs, and especially hope he will keep on Ravich’s case till she goes! She is ruining the state’s education system and forcing parents to turn to private schooling to escape her silly new OBE courses.
Bring on some truth and accountability from our MPs!

Mr Carpenter has stacked his cabinet with clowns, criminals and incompetents and is now reaping his reward.
He then has the audacity to blame the press!
Funnily enough the education writer for the West Australian, Jessica Strutt, recently won an award for her reports on the OBE fiasco in WA.
Don’t blame the journalists who report the bad news, it is not them that create it.

50 years ago it was the DLP

That changed to Labour and by the 70s we had Whitlam/Grazby/Murphy who tried to do strange loan deals with the OPEC countries and as a result got booted out.

As an aside and re the much maligned ‘Dismissal’ - what most people seem to forget is that 3 months later and in spite of that ‘outrage’ - the Libs were swept to victory in their biggest win ever.

The 70s merged into the 80 Inc saga - of which we are still all still feeling the effects. Not to mention Iemma’s current debacle and the highly questionable conduct of WAs’ speaker a year or so ago.

I know that is a mix of Fed and State politics but honestly - there is nothing resembling any of that on the other side of the political fence.

The Labour party - by its very nature - is comprised of nothing more than professional politicians who couldn’t get a job anywhere else and is rotten to the core.

The handing over of Labour to the interst groups/social engineers 50 years ago was the death knell not only of fair represtnation for Australia’s working class - but for Australian politics in general.

Because what it has meant is that the Libs can get away with ANYTHING.

And they are.

I hate politicians as much as the next guy but I also hate cynicism in the media. The West and Channel Seven can share that award.

I’m not surprised at all by the comments made by Carpenter. Why? because I also came to that conclusion some time ago.

Why can’t the media for once focus on the positives? Sure give condemnation to those who deserve it but heck, I wouldn’t be surprised if tomorrow’s headline reads “Carpenter picks his nose in public view”…So lets get him!!!

I don’t know about you, but I live for the future not the past.

Em, you must be a Latham supporter. Those were the same arguments he used when dissing the Labor party.

Also, note how I have dropped the “u” from the party name to effect the proper spelling.
