This story is quite old (2001) but it does give you some insight into the work of Ms Fiona Wood and the teams at WA’s burns units at Royal Perth Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital. Dr Marie Stoner is the Medical Scientist who created Spray-on skin technology with Fiona Wood. The WA Burns Units were pioneers in developing methods to quickly close burn wounds, seriously reducing the risk of infection, which is a primary cause of death after a major burn. Whilst controversial in burn circles when the spray-on skin was first developed, it has revolutionised the way bur wounds are managed. It was this work, as well as the management of the burnt victims of the Bali bombings in October 2001 that brought Fiona Wood to National attention.
