The problems with the eagles start at the top. Their coach, last year, sledged some journalists with whom he wasn’t happy. After the swearing incident at the presentation of the Ross Glendinning medal last weekend, the coach said “This was very serious and I will have to buy some soap to wash his mouth out” - or words to that effect. Clearly he didn’t regard it as very serious at all, yet even politicians are not allowed to use that sort of language while at work. The administration was aware of the addiction problems of their “spiritual” leader a long time ago, yet chose to put winning games of football ahead of his health and well being. Funnily enough, when Daniel Kerr was caught out nicking a prescription pad, the presiding magistrate at his hearing was one of the leading ticket holders at the club. Needless to say nothing much happened there.
The eagles who won the premierships in 1992 and 1994 were both respected and respectful. It’s a pity we can’t say the same about the current team.
