FROM time to time, Australians worry about how much they drink. This should surprise no one in a country whose first currency was rum.

Met a guy in his early 20s who claimed that he could no longer drink. He said that he had already pretty much pickled his liver. I was amazed that someone so young could have done that much harm already.
People know the risks. We have a lot of eduction but it is legal and the government is addicted to the tax: tobacco, caffeine, alcohol… It’s like smokers: “got to die of something.”
