Skitch - the ultimate image sharing application
Skitch - from the Australian team that brought you Comic Life - has launched in limited public beta.
Skitch has just been released as a limited public beta (not quite public and not quite private). And to all of you out there on a Mac, I say get thee a copy very quick. You can do this by going here and signing-up. Do not hesitate. Seriously get it and then come back and read the review. Ok, maybe not, but get it!
Skitch is the latest Mac application from Plasq.com the creators of Comic Life, which many new Mac owners may be familiar with.
So what is Skitch?
Skitch is probably the most useful little application on my desktop. The creators of Skitch describe it as the \"internet age's camera\". But I have to say that's a pretty limited description.
Skitch is a fast and simple way to share images. I can probably best illustrate this by explaining when and how I have used Skitch.
First of all it is the easiest way to take a screen shot that I have come across - there is a snap function that lets you highlight and take a picture of any screen image. The photo is then saved on your skitch 'pad' where you can ad text (think Perez Hilton) or highlight something using text and arrows. I've created a few PerthNorg images this way.
This has been an amazing feature for me when making changes to the layouts of our classifieds as well. I simply captured the webpages with a 'snap' and wrote in the changes I wanted. It was then just a process of dropping the image into an email and sending it off. No fuss.
I have also done a bit of work on a project with someone else who has Skitch. This allows us to edit each other's images. The text and drawings float over the original images and can easily be manipulated just by dragging and dropping them.
We have shared the images through MySkitch which is a personal page on the web where you can post the images you create. This way we have used IM to instantly share work. This is also a great tool for bloggers in that you can embed images instantly using MySkitch. Also real neat for Cit Js too :) So the image for this story is hosted on MySkitch and I just use the URL to embed it.
Skitch is also synced with your computer's camera and you can take quick photos this way as well. I have even used it to share instant family snaps with a friend through IM.
As well as *hearting* its functions I think the Skitch team has done an awesome job in creating a great user-interface. You only need to have a play for a few minutes to get the hang of things and it is very user-intuitive.
Like I said, get thee an invite!

Lizzie P haz skitch! Thanks very much to the Plasq team for letting me have a play with your new baby. Even for a tech-dummy like me it is easy to use.

Thanks Bronwen - Skitch is great fun. Love the drag and drop interface where the app fades to small during the process.
