Sheedy misses out as Bailey takes on Melbourne

The Melbourne Football Club have announced that Port Adelaide assistant coach Dean Bailey will be the new coach. Apparently senior players at the club were consulted and rather than want a tested coach, the overwhelming feeling was the club needed a fresh start.

There was suggestion that the appointment, which was ratified by the board last night, would not be announced until next week, for present caretaker coach Mark Riley's benefit.

Chris Connolly is expected to be offered a Football Operations Manager role at the club
