9 out of 10 cot deaths linked to smoking

The latest research reveals that nine out of 10 mothers whose babies suffered cot death were smokers.

Although this should come as no surprise, the latest findings are based on data analysis from 21 international studies making it the most comprehensive study to date.

I am hopeful that with the election coming up that the government might throw some money at an education campaign. I genuinely wonder if some sections of our community have missed the message that smoking doesn’t just harm them, but also an unborn child.

I’m far more cynical.  They know it harms the kids.  They just don’t give a rats.

The one that gets me is

“If smoking is a cause of SIDS, and the evidence suggests it is, we think that if all parents stopped smoking tomorrow more than 60 per cent of SIDS deaths would be prevented.”

No wonder according to  the article there is a call for the sale of tobacco to pregnant women to be restricted.
