Dockers Hero Retires

Justin Longmuir has finally succumbed to a debilitating knee injury, which has shortened the career of the Fremantle Dockers ruck-man, and announced his retirement today.

Longmuir has played 139 games for the Dockers after being recruited in as the number two draft pick in 1999. He only played 2 games in 2007. Justin still has two more years on his contract to run, so his retirement is good news for the club who were facing a heavy payout.

Without doubt Longmuir will be remembered for the magical Friday night game against St Kilda in round 21 2005. With only seconds to go he out-marked St Kilda players and even Matthew Pavlich. From approximately 40 metres he then calmly slotted the goal through to hand Fremantle a memorable victory which West Australian Premier Allan Carpenter described in parliament the next day as "better than sex". Longmuir then capped off the moment by jumping into the crowd, right next to this ecstatic CJ.

For those Fremantle and footy fans, you can watch the clip here.
