A major traffic accident has delayed holiday traffic on the Old Coast Road at Dawesville, south of Mandurah.

North bound traffic on the Old Coast Road came to a complete halt around 6:30pm WST and at the time of writing (7:40pm) was still stopped waiting for the accident to be cleared. Police were advising waiting motorists to switch their engines off and to expect a long wait.

The exact location of the accident was not available, although traffic was banked back down the Dawesville Deviation towards Lake Clifton. At the time of writing no mainstream media outlets are reporting the story online. More when we have it.

Update:  The RAC Rescue One Helicopter was on site as at 8:05pm. The accident is at the approach to the Dawesville Cut Bridge. According to an on the scene report provided to Perth Norg, at least one car has rolled multiple times after swerving to miss another car. No reports on fatalities but the road is still blocked and traffic at a standstill.

Update 2: Police routed north bound traffic into one half of the South Bound lanes around 8:30pm, with north bound lanes remaining closed. RAC rescue one has taken injured parties to hospital in Perth.
