Hasleby to miss season
Star Fremantle Dockers midfielder Paul Hasleby is likely to miss the entire 2008 season with news being reported this morning that he is likely to need a complete knee reconstruction. In Fremantles thrashing of a hapless West Coast Eagles last night, Hasleby was a key performer until Selwood landed heavily on Paul's knee.

That’s using the ’star’ very loosely. The loss of Hasleby should increase the speed of the dockers midfield.

Norich rising star winner, three times Ross Glendinning medal winner, twice all australian…..mmmm whose obective? Speed is not everything, skill comes into it as well, and Hasleby is without doubt one of the most skilled football players.

You’re right, he’s got great skills and played some great games. The RG medal is a joke and becomes less relevant the years pass.
Let’s take a look at some Brownlow vote statistics - average number of votes per season - 7. Not bad - but no star. Contrast that with say Nick Del Santo with an average of 10 votes per season.
If we look at the player statistics from 1998 - 2007 and try and find him in the top 20 for the key indicators we find:
Most games: nope!
Most disposals: nope!
Most kicks: nope!
Most marks: nope!
Most handballs: nope!
Most goals: nope!
Most behinds: nope!
Most hitouts: nope!
Most tackles: nope!
Most frees for: nope!
Most frees against: nope!
Is that objective enough?

No….its not.
He had more handballs than any one else for the Dockers, and also finished in the top ten players for the Dockers since he started.
He is a star Fremantle player, and as the press today has stated.

I suspected that wouldn’t satisfy you which is strange given the Dockers supporters’ penchant for accepting mediocrity.
I didn’t realize there’s ’stardom’ and ‘Dockers stardom’ that is measured against a lower benchmark.
If that’s the case then sure…Dockers Star lol
