Triple J One Night Stand
The Triple J One Night Stand is an annual one off concert that is aimed for country towns anywhere in Australia with a population less than 20,000 people. Past years have seen the One Night Stand in Natimuk (Victoria), Ayr (Queensland), Port Pirie (South Australia), Cowra (NSW) and 2008 saw the free concert event hosted by Collie (Western Australia). It was most definitely a hit and with about 15,000 people turning up for the concert, making it the biggest one yet.
The first band to hit the stage was the Triple J Unearthed winner, This End Up. No doubt the boys were nervous playing in front of an early large crowd of about 6,000, but they didn't let it show at all, delivering an energetic and well played set.
Sydney's Faker were next up on stage playing a 60 minute high energy set, getting the crowd pumped up with favorites Hurricane and This Heart Attack amongst many others. Their latest album Be The Twilight has been a huge hit for the past 6 months so it was great to see new songs greeted with the same enthusiasm as their older material.
The second last act for the evening was PNAU with a mix of dance beats, fantastic lights and mascots, it had the crowd in a frenzy and dancing to Wild Strawberries, Baby and Come Together as well as crowd favorite No More Violence. After playing a couple high energy shows in Perth during the week they did well matching that energy in the small country town.
To finish the evening off, progressive rock band Cog came to the stage delivering a fantastic set of songs from both their old albums as well as some brand new stuff from their latest album, including some songs they had never played live.
It was a great end to an awesome festival, and one that Collie will not forget for a long time.
