Wealthy? Sure you are. Stop complaining
I can't believe that people earning more than $150,000 are complaining about not getting a baby bonus of $5,000 or that they complain that they are not receiving enough government help. Read the article. The "poor" lady says it is tough to pay several thousand dollars to send her kids to school. Do you have any idea that people eat for a year on that kind of money? Come on! Stop the selfishness! There are people who really needs help. You don't!

There’s nothing like a budget to bring out the selfish gene in everyone. $150,000 sounds fair, but I’m hoping some solid economic analysis went in to deciding that number.
While we’re being “selfish” - my gripe - why are benefits only means-tested, should they not also consider how many children are supported in a family? The point of the Baby bonus was to support families financially after having children, but these costs are ongoing.
$150,000 for a family of four is very different to that for a family of six.
Oh and for the record, I have four kids

Hi Bronwen. Agreed. But should a person with $150,000 income and 4 kids, receive the same as a person with $50,000 and 4 kids? I think until there is a better solution, I would prefer the money to be taken from the wealthy. I can guarantee you that a lot of the people making above $150,000 don’t have four kids. Usually there are making more money because they are career-oriented and not family-oriented. There are exceptions, but I think that’s the keyword “exceptions”.

From another perspective, why should people who don’t have children support those who do through these schemes based on taxing one group to benefit another?

I have no problem in being taxed for the baby bonus, I don’t intend on having children either, but I’d rather the money go to people who “Need it”.

My comment was more in response to alexg.brisbane’s comment “I would prefer the money be taken from the wealthy”. It just gets my back up when people call for those who have worked hard for their money to give it up so readily.

Hi k0tter, I’m talking about a fairer distribution. It makes sense that the ones who have more, give a little to those who have less. Of course, in today’s world is more like I’m good screw the rest. “Worked hard” usually applies to the people making less money, than the ones enjoying their life in the high salary levels. So next time you get your back up about giving up some of your money because you would have to wait to buy the latest Xbox game, think about the people that really “need” help putting food on the table and clothing their kids. And if you are one of those who think they might not be working hard enough, then you obviously need to take a second look at the world and see that not everyone starts with the same advantages and there is nothing wrong on helping them get on their feet. Recommendation: Read “Deep Economy” by Bill McGibben. We have to abandon the model of everyone for themselves. Have a good day.

Your entire response makes a lot of incorrect assumptions. You don’t know anything about me, my background or my current situation. You don’t know how hard I work, or have worked to get where I am, sacrifices that I or my family have made, but apparently because of a comment I made I automatically have too much money for my own good. All I did was offer an alternative viewpoint.

Sorry that last comment should have been addressed to AlexG instead of k0tter.
