GO3 = Disgrace!
I just attended the well advertised GO3 Entertainment and Digital EXPO at the Perth Convention Centre and am bitterly disappointed.
Firstly approximately 70% of all the computer screens (even those within displays for Perth's Universities) were displaying ultra violent first person shooter games or hand to hand fighting games with graphic displays of blood spurting from severed body parts. Then approx 20% of the screens were for car racing games where crashing into your fellow competitors was of paramount concern and then there was a few screens dedicated to educational games and/or information.
The expo would have been better branded as a place where anyone, but especially those under 12 can come and play the games that are licensed as M 15+ while being plied with "goodies and giveaways" from women who were dressed and behaving like they were handing out alcohol in a nightclub and not pamphlets about the latest kill or be killed "real soldier" adventure. Seriously in one section of the expo (the biggest single display) there was 20 computers for linked for play. I counted 16 children definitely under 15 years oldĀ and at least 8 under 10 years of age playing a gane that was clearly advertised as MA15+ only. Where are the responsible adults monitoring this exhibition? Where are the parents?
It has been said time and time again in multiple media forums that "Perth gets what it deserves", well if the organisers of GO3 think that this is all Perth deserves, I am very concerned for the future of a small city where our children are taught that killing with guns that look and feel real is not only okay, but FUN.
I will get off my high horse now and step onto my soap box for next weeks rantings.

I used to play violent video games as a child, anyone remember Carmageddon and Quake?
You do have a point, but there is no R18 classification in Australia, so any child can play any game even if its MA15.
