Andrew Brine Resigns

The chief executive of WA community television station Access 31, Andrew Brine, has resigned.

Last month the station came close to being wound up due to financial problems, but Mr Brine said his decision to quit was unrelated to the station's financial problems.

Perth architect Gary Baverstock provided the ailing station with a last-minute bail-out, contributing $500,000 to keep the Perth's only community TV channel on the air.

Lotterywest also pitched in with a $250,000 grant to the organisation.

Mr Brine led the station for 11 years but now works as a consultant to the board. He said he was enjoying some well-earned time off.

"I resigned directly after the last members meeting about five or six weeks ago," he said. "I have still been doing a little bit of work for the board and consulting."

The financial management of Access 31 has been heavily criticised in the past, but Mr Brine maintained his resignation was motivated solely by personal reasons.

He believed the station had enormous potential.

"I think we have seen some of that potential come out and obviously in the future it is going to continue to be bigger and better.

"We have proven that over the nine years we have been operational," he said.

It is believed that Mr Baverstock is in the process of restructuring the organisation.
