The Big Dim Sim? Are they Serious!!??

Developers are proposing to build a Giant Dim Sim as a tourist attraction in South Melbourne.

So, I work in South Melbourne on Clarendon Street. I was walking to get some lunch the other day and noticed this development sign on top of the Clarendon Centre. Apparently some clown thinks it's a good idea to build a Big Dim Sim as a tourist attraction, along the lines of the Big Banana. Are they for real? Do they really think this is what people want?I know the South Melbourne dimmy is famous, but does it need to be enlarged, made of steel and inflicted on everyone in this way? I wouldn't be surprised to see this in Queensland, but here in Melbourne? What are they thinking? I did a bit of research and they have a website as well, http://www.bigdimsimdevelopment.com.au/Might be worth making a comment to register your disapproval I think.

I like it.  I live in Elwood and shop at the Sth Melboourne Martket.  The Sth Melb Dimmy is ledgendary.  Why not give Sth Melb something unique.  Sth Yarra doesnt have a famous food item? Or viewing platform.  This is Australian free market spirit at its best.

I’ve just seen the planning sign on Clarendon Street. It really is going to happen… There were a couple of people protesting.

Dim sims stink and so does this. If it goes ahead it should be a big steamed one… which will remind everyone of what a steaming **** this is!

Thanks for the laugh though Freeform Advertising and Design who own the domain name for the Project.

Merely a publicity stunt for either the Agency or Council or Fox FM and Triple M that have just moved into the building.

Architect doesn’t exist!
Project Manager doesn’t exist!
Structural Engineer doesn’t exist!
Builder doesn’t exist!

But surely if it is serious it needs to be on top of the Market!

Really it’s a joke?

If you look at the Planning Application permit on the front of the building it from the “City of South Melbourne”  not the “City of Port Phillip”  and the only way it suggest you comment is to go to the website not complain through the council.

Also the address for  the complaints is in the same street as the Advertising Agency. mmmmmmm….

Me smell a rat!

It’s about time some people used their imagination. After 60 years of the best Dim Sims in the world why not let it be another tourist attraction.Paris has the Eiffel Tower,Sydney their coathanger.Neither contribute to the food chain.

South Melbourne Dim Sims are afordable food of the working class eaten by residents and visitors alike.

I say lets be proud of our culture and let the world know.Build a giant Dim Sim visible for miles around. It could be the first view of Melbourne for Cruise Ships in the Bay or a turning poimt for aircraft approaching Tullamarine if made big enough.

Hmmm the plot thickens. After Matt’s comments I went to ask someone at the agency, as I work nearby. But the street address of the agency is actually a vacant building. I also found an FMW developments which is an American company. I went to their website and it’s “Current Projects” page is being updated - so no leads as to them building the Dim Sim. But their site is weird. It seems like a joke itself.
